Autrefois un village minier desservi par la voie ferr\u00e9e la plus septentrionale au monde \u2013 vous pouvez encore voir ses rails \u2013 Ny \u00c5lesund est maintenant un centre de recherche. Pr\u00e8s de la communaut\u00e9 se trouve un site de reproduction pour les oies cornues, les oies \u00e0 pieds roses et les sternes arctiques. Les eaux devant ce glacier sont un lieu de nourrissage pris\u00e9 par des milliers de <strong>kittiwakes<\/strong>, et la base de la glace est un terrain de chasse populaire pour les ours polaires.<\/p>\n<p>Si les conditions de glace emp\u00eachent la navigation ici au d\u00e9but de la saison, nous pourrions emprunter un itin\u00e9raire alternatif le long de la c\u00f4te ouest de Spitsberg. Des morses viennent parfois s'\u00e9chouer ici, et des <strong>oiseaux de mer<\/strong> peuvent \u00eatre trouv\u00e9s autour de Fuglehuken. Vous pourrez \u00e9galement voir des populations de <strong>morses<\/strong> autour de Sarstangen et Poolepynten.<\/p>\n<p>En alternative, nous pourrions naviguer vers le fjord de St. Johns ou vers le sud jusqu'\u00e0 l'embouchure d'Isfjorden, en d\u00e9barquant \u00e0 Alkhornet. Des oiseaux de mer nichent sur ces falaises, des renards arctiques cherchent en dessous des \u0153ufs et des poussins tomb\u00e9s, et des rennes paissent la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation clairsem\u00e9e.
